Spam or Ham?
What is Spam?
Spam is generally thought of as unsolicited email. If you start getting email offering you a magical cure for your inadequacies or from girls saying that they miss you and you must contact them in a foreign country, generally they would classed as spam. You didn’t ask to be sent anything like this, but you are starting to be bombarded by them.
What is Ham?
Ham is email from someone or a company that you have allowed to send you the occasional email. Examples of ham could be, a daily email from Amazon, a weekly email from a forum, or a monthly email from Audible telling you what is happening. You might not really want to get them all the time, but they are OK and can be useful.
How to control Spam.
You really want spam to be removed before it is sent to your server or PC. Spam will often come from a compromised server or PC. The owner will not know they are sending email out until their legitimate email starts to be blocked by other spam filtering systems. This can happen as a result of them sending thousands of emails out to the same person, or from multiple people marking the email as spam on their filtering system. Spam will often try to infect your system in an attempt to send more spam from your PC or server.
How to control Ham.
Generally people don’t want to block emails from companies or forums they are members of. The bast way to stop it is to unsubscribe from the originating service. Look at the bottom of the email, and you should see an option to unsubscribe from the service.
